Jon Ruben admitted 17 charges at Leicester Crown Court on Friday

An individual who contaminated candy with sedative and gave them to youngsters at a summer program in the area has confessed to sexual offences against two boys both nine and ten years old.

The accused was detained after eight minors and a grown-up experienced illness at the location in mid-summer.

The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at the judicial center on the end of the week.

Yet, he denied one particular crime he was charged with, which was against a young boy.

The defendant was held in detention ahead of a additional proceeding on late November.

'Sweet game'

Mary Prior KC, handling the case, outlined the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.

She said his victims were under-privileged children who were attending a summer camp which he operated.

The defendant engaged in a "sweet game" with the minors, the prosecutor stated, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to eat sweets "rapidly".

She told the court Ruben had played this game with the children "repeatedly", and children had earlier experienced illness the following morning.

She stated the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had worries in recently.

The prosecutor stated further: "This year his family member had worries about the activities, with valid cause.

"They chose" to examine in the individual's items."

The prosecutor said items including infant oil, Vaseline and injection devices were discovered, and his stepson alerted the police about his concerns.

She explained Ruben continued to play the "candy game" with six youngsters that time - that Saturday - and they were all sick the subsequent day.

"Authorities" had not gone out by that point," she stated further.

The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was examining the police response of the events.

The prosecutor stated the minors were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson contacted the law enforcement once more.

She stated the defendant then conducted the "treat game" in a space of five minors.
